The Executive Governor Of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Honourable Commissioner for Health of Lagos State Prof. Akin Abayomi stated that the Italian man who was the first Coronavirus patient in Lagos has tested NEGATIVE and freed to go home.
His Excellency tweeted saying as the COVID-19 incident commander for Lagos State, he’s glad to inform the public that the index case; the Italian gentleman has now tested NEGATIVE.
The Governor also stated that through a combined effort of Lagos and Ogun State with the support of the Federal Health Authorities, they were able to limit the transmission of the virus to a single contact.
His Excellency also said aggressive efforts were involved in contact tracing of the victims who came in contact with the Italian man at the international airport. However they now have several new cases imported and they hope to implement contact tracing and containment strategies aggressively along side with social distancing to slow down the outbreak which may be brewing from these new cases.
His excellency said the index patient consented to donating one unit of white blood (plasma) before he was discharged today. The blood plasma is rich in antibody proteins that target #COVID-19 virus.
The white blood plasma is frozen in our Bio-bank and will be useful in handling new cases. The blood plasma will be beneficial for the treatment of new patients in the absence of a defined therapeutic drug for #COVID19.
His Excellency said the patient appreciated the exceptional care and supports given to him by the staff of the infections Diseases Hospital, Yaba and all members of the EOC.
