The Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje plead with the Federal government to relax the 2-4weeks total lockdown in Kano state as ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari on a live broadcast on Monday 27th-April-2020,as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease as Kano state has become the epicenter for the disease in Northern Nigeria as the number of confirmed cases rises exponentially daily.
In addition,President Bulgari had deployed a team of health experts to figure out the unusual rise in the mortality rate in Kano state.
Ganduje Said “we would engage the presidential taskforce on COVID-19 to seek permission for the relaxation of the two weeks total lockdown imposed on Kano”.He made these statements during an inauguration of Panel to support the taskforce technical committee.
The Governor who is concerned about hardship the people in Kano are facing during the total lock down added that; “we are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. we would love the federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes,especially now that majority of us are fasting t will also ease the economic hardship in the state”.As at Thursday night, the Nigeria Centre For Disease control(NCDC) reported 80 new cases, 219 confirmed cases,five deaths,with no single number of recoveries.
Governor Ganduje also rejects the hospital his Predecessor,Sen.Rabiu Kwankwaso donated to be used as an isolation center for the COVID-19 Infected Patients. However, the kwankwasiyya movement took it to twitter that Governor Ganduje is playing politics with people’s lives by refusing to accept the donation.
There was a mixed reaction on twitter as one wrote,”If that’s true, then it’s too bad. I thought they have settled their differences considering the esteemed regards people have for them.”
Another user rose in defense of Governor Ganduje, saying that the Kwankwasiyya Movement was a hypocrite for playing politics with everything.
According to him, Kano does not lack isolation centre, adding that the state needs testing laboratories at the moment.
He said: “[Kwankwasiyya Movement are] original hypocrites, playing politics in everything thing.
