Hiccups treatment at home can be very uncomfortable, trying to sip cold water or gargling with ice water can cause relief. Hiccups are a common occurrence, but they can be a real pain. Luckily, there’s an easy way to prevent and treat hiccups—just read on for all the information you need!
What is a hiccup?

A hiccup is an involuntary contraction of your diaphragm muscle that produces a sudden bout of uncontrolled breathing. It usually lasts between 3 and 10 seconds, but some people experience it for up to 30 seconds. Hiccups are more common in children than adults, and they’re most commonly caused by stress or anxiety.

What causes hiccups?

Hiccups can be caused by stress, anxiety, excitement, or drinking too much-carbonated beverages. They’re also more likely if you’ve had alcohol at night before bedtime or if you have GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Hiccups can be prevented by drinking water, eating slow-burning carbohydrates, or chewing gum. If this does not work, then you should try to drink lots of water and eat small amounts frequently throughout the day.

You might also want to try drinking lots of water before bedtime so that the water sits in your stomach overnight and helps prevent hiccups from happening during sleep time.

If you do experience hiccups, they will typically stop after 30 minutes or so. If they don’t stop on their own or get worse, then there are some things that can be done to alleviate this condition including:

– Pinching your nose (if you don’t have a gag reflex) and holding it closed for up to five minutes
-Gargling with salt water
– Taking an antihistamine such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine).

Types of Hiccups Treatment At Home

There are several different kinds of hiccups. The most common type is caused by swallowing something that’s too big for your stomach (like a pebble or coin). Other types of hiccups are caused by breathing in stomach gas.

A glass of warm water will make the air in your stomach expand, which may also help to break up the blockage and clear out what’s causing it. This method is especially effective if you’re having trouble breathing deeply enough.
