The Plateau State index case which was confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 and reported by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC)-Plateau State on the 24th April,2020 has been tested twice and all the results were confirmed negative.
The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong after hearing this wonderful development gives kudos to the Plateau State COVID-19 task force and the medical team for been on top of the matter. Lalong says;”working together, Coronavirus will be defeated”.
The index case was in one of the isolation Centers in Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Nathan Shehu, the consultant physician, Infectious disease, confirmed the discharge of the patient, he tagged the treatment as “Successfull”.
He said;”the patient has recovered and is fit to reintegrate into the community as she poses no risk”.
“The patient came asymptomatic; after treatment, her samples were taken and they all were negative, so she is discharged and is fit to go home.
“The advice we will give to her is the same we will give those in the community. She should maintain social distance, respiratory and cough etiquette and hand sanitizing,” he said.
Shehu, who was involved in the management of the patient, urged the public not to stigmatise those treated and discharged.
“Such persons are to be encouraged. This particular patient has already received psyco-social support.”
Nimkong Ndam, The State Commissioner for Health, had told the journalists on Wednesday,that two tests were conducted on the index case with both results coming out negative.
He said that the patient would, therefore, be discharged.
