It’s dramatic and yet appalling of the fact that some Covid-19 patients in Kano state,Kwanar Dawaki isolation center held hostage for several hours the health workers-two doctors and a nurse attending to them Healthforbes Media reports.
These health officials were locked by the patients during their daily ward inspection In one of the wards in the isolation centre.
These patients may have their reasons to have acted in such a disdainable manner as they complained that they have been kept in the facility for weeks now without proper medical attention nor any test result confirming if they had actually contracted the disease.
But the cause for concern is that these health officials were wearing their Personal Protective Equipments(PPEs) considering the heat in Kano which may pose serious harm on their health.
The former Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Kano branch, Prof Amino Ahmed, who confirmed the incident, said the health workers were in the PPEs when they were taken and locked in one of the wards at the centre.
Prof Mohammed confirmed the ill-treatment of these health workers by the COVID-19 patients as he claimed that the door to the room had to be broken when the heat was becoming unbearable before they could get out of the room.
However, one of the patients explained that, they need to be released to reintegrate with their families as they have been kept in the isolation center for several weeks now without been subjected to medical examination to ascertain whether they have been truly infected with the coronavirus or not.
